In continuous operation since 1887, The Press Club of Cleveland is a home for working journalists, professional communicators and anyone who supports the media’s role to keep watch over democratic processes. We advocate for the importance of journalism; maintain the rich history of journalism in Northeast Ohio; recognize excellence in the field, and host programs that bring members together for education, networking and camaraderie.
In addition to journalists and professional communicators, the Press Club of Cleveland welcomes anyone who is interested in understanding and furthering the important role of journalism in democracy and society at-large. The club offers interesting educational and social programs, and each year hosts two signature programs:
- All Ohio Excellence in Journalism Awards. Celebrating the best examples of print, broadcast and digital journalism, with hundreds of entries from across the state judged by professional journalists throughout the United States.
- Press Club of Cleveland Journalism Hall of Fame. A new class is inducted each fall to honor the rich legacy of journalism and inspire current and future journalists.
Mission
The Press Club of Cleveland stands for excellence in journalism and communications. We honor the legacy and build the future by:
- Providing education, training and mentoring;
- Organizing forums to share knowledge and ideas;
- Recognizing those who do it well; and
- Engaging members of the community and having fun.
Vision
The Press Club of Cleveland aspires to be:
- Open to anyone interested in understanding/connecting/advocating for the important work of journalism.
- Nimble and grassroots.
- A connecting link for the many communications communities/organizations that exist in Northeast Ohio.
- Financially lean and self-sustaining on member dues, event fees and individual donations.
- An organization that satisfies a wide range of interests by leveraging members’ expertise/interests to produce frequent, timely, low-cost pop-up events (live and/or online) that can be considered a success if they draw 10-20 people.
- An active supporter of student journalism and related initiatives.
- Evolving and flowing based on the desires of its members, who communicate freely and frequently among themselves, and who feel welcome to create initiatives of their own under the Press Club banner.
